Spinning for Cancer Research |
If, like me, you were thinking "spinning " as in spinning cloth,
spinning wheels, Sleeping Beauty, you were thinking of the wrong spinning.

I was soon put straight by Kevin, one of our sheet metal workers, who
explained that spinning involves a set of intense aerobic exercises undertaken
on stationary bikes set to specially selected soundtracks.
As can sometimes happen the inspiration for raising money for charity often
comes from personal circumstances and this was true for Kevin. It was after the
diagnosis of Kevin's friend with cancer that he came up with the idea of
organizing a spinning event to raise funds for Cancer Research.
To make it all the more challenging though, this was not going to be a single
session, which normally lasts about 50 minutes but a "Spinathon",
consisting of 12 back to back sessions with only 10
minutes break between each session.
After
12 hours of great team effort and support the event raised over £3,000 for
Cancer Research UK.
Over 25 people took place in the event with 5 of the team, including Kevin,
going for the full 12 hours spinning from 8am to 8pm!
To all of you who supported Kevin and his co-spinners in this event, a very big
thank you.
